Canalba

 Canalba is a dog rescue station in Alba Adriatica (Italy).
Unfortunately we cannot support all institutions and have choosed Canalba, because there is a team of only 4 people, trying to take care of now only 279 dogs instead of 420 last year and trying, to provide the financial means and to find people mainly in Germany and Switzerland for these dogs
This admirable commitment earns agnowledgment and support.
In order to make at least a small contribution here, for the membership is upraised an annuity of 10,- Euro,
which is transmitted in full height to Canalba. Beside this we collect also further donations for same purpose.
Canalba has also a homepage, www.cani-di-alba.com in German language , containing furher informations about the dogs, the people of Canalba and the problems there.

Dogs of Canalba

 

On 4 October 2004 we had the opportunity to visit Canalba. Is not conceivable for our conditions. 350 dogs live in groups in built enclosures, to the greatest part freely on the area of a former slaughterhouse in waste container re-designed to dog houses. Charlotte and Teresa, occasionally supported by some women and by paid aids, supply the dogs only with fodder and try to clean the enclosures . There is no time for care and it being missing the financial means for? Many dogs came to us, in order to get some stroking units, for a long time still ran after us. It is missing to all at human allowance and contacts. One has always the impression, it hopes to be carried forward. Many dogs are very trustful, some were afraid and shy, some ill, many already old, one dog were blind. But all are supplied at least, also medically cared for, to have a roof against the burning sun and protection from rains, need at least not to hunger. A dog was totally thin and anxious, did not want to eat. A young veterinary helps Canalba, examines the new dogs or helps the ill dogs. One great assistance is the switching from dogs to Germany and into Switzerland. But on each obtained dog come two new dogs, which are usually unloaded simply before the gate or released from animal friends from pitiful circumstances and brought to Canalba, so that they can live at least , and not under agonies to end. Canalba needs still much assistance, so that it can continue there. It would be harmful, if from financial causes this local dog rescue have to give up.
